Solvent-driven aqueous separations for hypersaline brine concentration and resource recovery

نویسندگان

چکیده

Solvent-driven separation processes can extract water and high-value minerals from high salinity or contaminated brines, simultaneously reducing the environmental impact of brine disposal enabling resource recovery. The efficient dewatering hypersaline brines is essential for sustainable minimal zero liquid discharge processing industrial wastewaters. Fractional crystallization selectively ions waste streams, allowing critical materials to be recycled, including transition lanthanide metals required renewable energy generation storage. Mass transfer in solvent-driven extraction occurs across a liquid–liquid interface, eliminating scaling fouling membrane heat exchanger surfaces limiting need extensive pretreatment. fractional leverage sequential treatment control process conditions rapidly recover salts without requiring evaporation water. Despite promising applications, principles potential aqueous separations remain poorly understood. This review explores opportunities presented by solvent-based molecular scale, evaluating chemistry solvation system design broader context desalination, recovery, softening, mineral production.

Green microalgae biomolecule separations and recovery

Microalgae biomass has garnered significant attention as a renewable energy feedstock and alternative to petroleumbased fuels. The diverse metabolism of green microalgae species additionally provides opportunities for recovery of products for feed, food, nutraceutical, cosmetic, and biopharmaceutical industries. Recently, the concept of using microalgae as part of a biorefinery model has been a...

Evaluation of Advanced Gravity and Magnetic Concentration of a PGM Tailings Waste for Chromite Recovery

This research was aimed at evaluating the efficiency of advanced gravity and magnetic separations on the recovery of chromite from the fine Platinum Group Metals (PGM) tailings consisting of particles 80% passing 75 µm with about 45% being >45 µm resulting in high chromite losses. The PGM plant tailings were subjected to X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy and particle size dis...

Ion-Solvent and Solvent-Solvent Interactions. X-ray Study of Aqueous Alkali Chloride Solutions

The first neighbour model, FNM, used frequently for the description of hydration has been modified by dropping the assumption that the structure of the "free" solvent is identical with that of the pure solvent. The modified model, FNM2, reproduces the experimental X-ray structure functions of alkali chloride solutions quite well and enables the study of perturbed solventsolvent interactions. Th...

Inland hypersaline lakes and the brine shrimp Artemia as simple models for biodiversity analysis at the population level

Biodiversity can be measured at different hierarchical levels, from genetic diversity within species to diversity of ecosystems, though policy-makers tend to use species richness. The 2010 goal of reducing biodiversity loss, agreed by the subscribers to the Convention on Biological Diversity, requires simple and reliable protocols to evaluate biodiversity at any level in a given ecosystem. Stak...
